How Would You Describe Your Relationship to Yourself?
The relationship that you have with yourself is one of the most important relationships you can have. This is because once you’ve become an adult, you ultimately have the most active role to play in taking care of yourself, as only you are truly aware of the pain you may feel and the care you may need. Therefore, the love, kindness, and care you feel towards yourself is something that will serve you well whether you’re single or in a relationship.
Because of this, it’s important to understand the qualities and dynamics of this relationship you have with yourself. How would you describe it? Is it “fairy tale bliss,” “meh,” or “complicated?” Would you like it to be different?
Factors Affecting Your Relationship With Yourself
The quality of your relationship to yourself is affected by a variety of factors. Some of these factors include:
How You Talk To Yourself
The sort of personal messages you say to yourself affects your mindset and shapes your beliefs. Are your messages you give yourself defeating or empowering? Do they overwhelm you and cause you to shut down, or do they inspire you to take action?
How You Take Care of Yourself
The ways in which you take care of yourself also affects your relationship to yourself. Are you getting enough exercise and rest? Are you eating food that your body easily digests and are you well-hydrated? All of these things affects how your body feels, and subsequently, how you feel about your body.
What You Believe About Yourself
What you believe about yourself is like a seed from which these other factors grow. If you don’t believe that you deserve love, care, and kindness, it’s not likely that you will tell yourself messages that reflect this. Likewise, it’s unlikely that you will do things that will contribute to your health and care.
