Trauma
Experiences of trauma can take a negative toll on one’s sense of health and well-being. But it can be difficult to talk about our traumatic experiences, due to the feelings of pain, shame, or discomfort that we may experience in retelling our story.

Music can be an especially healing way to express and recover from our past experiences of trauma, due to music’s expressive, non-verbal nature and the impact it has on the limbic system of the brain, responsible for emotions and memories.

Grief, Loss, and Transitions
Music can be a powerful means for exploring, experiencing and moving through loss when words may not be enough. SoundWell offers music psychotherapy services that can help you with:

• Grief and Loss
• Death and Dying
• Existential Crises

Therapeutic Voice Work
Many of us have grown up with our voices silenced. Over the years of being told by others to “shut up,” that we weren’t “good enough,” or that we were “tone-deaf” may have caused us to stop speaking out or singing. Coupled with feeling unsafe in expressing our true thoughts and feelings, we may be reluctant to speak our truth.

Therapeutic voice work can provide a safe space to engage in vocal exploration so that you can reclaim your voice, your truth- your birthright.

Self-Empowerment and Personal Growth
Are you ready to step into your full, authentic Self?

By using music to tap into your deeper Self, you can discover a wealth of insights and personal strength that will help guide you on your journey of personal growth.

Music and Mindfulness

There is much research coming out about the benefits of developing a mindfulness practice. By being aware of what is happening in the present moment, it is possible to reduce stress and anxiety, allowing one to see life events more objectively.

Listening to or making music involves developing an awareness and becoming mindful of what you hear coming from both yourself and from others. As such, music can be a great way to experience the “hear and now!”

Women’s Wellness
Many women today feel pressure. From feeling responsible for raising families and maintaining a home, to establishing and sustaining a career, it can be easy for today’s modern woman to lose sense of herself. However, when we lose sense of ourselves by failing to recognize our own needs, our sense of well-being can suffer.

By engaging in music-making activities, women can have a chance to freely be themselves and to engage in needed creative expression. These experiences can then support them in returning back to their daily lives and responsibilities feeling heard, refreshed, and renewed.

Stress Management and Relaxation
Stress is an inevitable part of contemporary life. However, the key is how one deals with stress. Research continues to provide evidence of the severe health implications due to chronic stress, including disturbances to the immune system that can result in becoming ill more often.

By developing healthy coping strategies for dealing with stress, we can more easily and efficiently work with stressful situations, as opposed to working against them. Music can be a beneficial way for managing stress and promoting relaxation, due to the ways in which music can affect body, mind, heart, and spirit.

Early Childhood and Family Music
Early exposure to music can have a beneficial long-term impact on one’s development. Studies show that playing a musical instrument can assist with memory, focus, and problem-solving.

Additionally, enjoying and creating music together as a family can provide positive family experiences that can help strengthen relationships as well as promote healthy childhood development. SoundWell is pleased to offer the following music groups:

• Children’s Musical Play Groups
• Family Musical Play Groups

Community-Based Programs
SoundWell also partners with community organizations to provide community-based music groups such as:

• After-school Groups for Children or Teens
